In early January, Wendy Bednarcik began her new role as the Director of Human Resources at John Knox Village.
Prior to joining The Village, Wendy had the opportunity to visit the Leonard Florence Center for Living, a GREEN HOUSE® Project community located in Chelsea, MA.
While there, she was extremely impressed by the overall GREEN HOUSE model of care that is similar to what will be available in our The Woodlands at John Knox Village (coming fall of 2015), the first-of-its-kind skilled nursing care center in the State of Florida.
“I started at The Village at the most opportunistic time,” said Wendy, who began in early January. “In addition to working towards making JKV an even more amazing place to work and live, I am looking forward to learning and providing the necessary training and support to our employees, both current and future, who will have the opportunity to be part of The Woodlands at John Knox Village.”
Originally from Connecticut, Wendy has lived in Florida for the past 25 years. She has more than 15 years of human resources experience in employee relations, employment, management, communications, training and development.
“Ever since graduating college, I have had a passion for human resources,” said the University of Connecticut graduate. “I truly have been impressed by the people at John Knox Village – the residents and employees and the opportunities to make a positive impact in the lives of others.”
“Thus far, I have found our residents to be very engaging and active. They remind me of my parents, and it is nice to be in this amazing environment, being able to interact with our residents on a daily basis. It’s an honor to work in their home every day,” she said.
Prior to JKV, she was the Director of Human Resources for five years at FIVE STAR Premier Residences in Pompano Beach.
She also has worked in human resources with a number of companies in South Florida, including: CBIZ, Inc. (Boca Raton/Miami/Maitland, FL); SV MICROWAVE, INC. (West Palm Beach); Lynn Insurance Group (Boca Raton); Wycon Corporation (Coral Springs); and J.I. Kislak Mortgage Corporation (Miami Lake).
As our Human Resources Director, Wendy will be a strategic business partner for the team, supporting the mission of JKV while being a strong employee advocate. Her responsibilities will also include overseeing the functions of her human resources team members: Anne DeSantis, Benefits and Compensation Administrator; Dan Jilek, Safety/Risk Manager; and Pauline Prawl, Human Resources Manager.
“John Knox Village is well known for having longevity with employees,” she said. “Long-time employees equal happy employees. I hope I am able to make a mark in a positive way, as I have a passion for helping people reach their personal and professional goals.”
In addition to spending time with her husband, Wendy enjoys living an active lifestyle by running, playing tennis, golfing, traveling and following her favorite New England sports teams.
“I am excited about Wendy joining our Senior Management Team. I know that she will be a strong advocate for all of our caregivers and enhance our reputation that John Knox Village is a great place to work,” said Robert Scharmann, President and CEO.
